I have captured onto my hard drive with a pyro capture card. It is not compatible with Adobe so I used the sw that came with the card for capturing.

I have it all in .avi files and when I double click on them they open in windows media player and run great. I want to import them into Adobe (it supports .avi files) but it won't let me. I tried saving one of them as an mpg while it was loaded into windows media player and then imported that. It imported ok but crashed adobe when I tried to run it.

Any suggestions? I am using adobe premier 5.5.

For starters I hear that Prem5.5 is a beta version, released warez with the beta tags removed.

I'd start by going back to 5.1c

    Then:
AVI is sort of 'open architecture' insomuch as an AVI can use any one of many different codecs available for COmpression/DECrompression.

Either you don't have the AVI codec installed on your PC with premiere on it, or it is not an 'open' codec meaning that premiere cannot 'see' it. Generally, if MS-Media Player can play it, Premiere can import it (unless like you say it's MPEG).

Basically, you need to know what format your footage has been captured in, and if a software codec is available for it.

Yeah, 5.1a should be okay, at least it's not beta code smile

(you could even try 4.2 to be really sure... or there are alternatives such as MediaStudio 6 which offer very similar functionality)

What is meant by saying it's a beta version?
